cellist, Evelyn Joung

 

At the age of 7, Evelyn Joung, now 16 years old and a native of Princeton, NJ, embarked on her journey with the cello.  

In 2019, she achieved the distinction of becoming

the youngest cello student accepted into the Julliard School Pre-College Division, under the tutelage of Clara Minhye Kim.

 

Evelyn made her orchestral debut in 2022 with

the Orchestra of Camerata NJ. Her musical prowess

was recognized in 2023 when she won the Julliard School Pre-College Concerto Competition. This success led her to perform the complete Herbert Cello Concerto No. 2 with the Julliard Pre-College Symphony.

 

Evelyn was chosen as the youngest semifinalist at the

2022 Johansen International Competition. and reached

the final round of the 2023 YoungArts Competition.

She received a full scholarship to the Morningside Music Bridge Summer Festival in 2021, where she participated in masterclasses with Laurence Lesser and Zvi Plesser. Evelyn spent her summers of 2022 and 2023 at the Perlman Music Program. In June 2023, she appeared in a performance at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium.

Evelyn has been a member of Pro Sono, a non-profit organization devoted to sharing the love of classical music across generations. Currently a sophomore at the Chapin School in NYC, Evelyn continues to captivate audiences with her performances and dedication to the art of the cello.
